I don't have many photos of our wedding unfortunately. It was planned quickly and a photographer was not in the budget so we had family take photos. Yeah, not the best plan. lol

So, I will share one I have probably shared before. It's the only photo scanned into the computer right now. And yes, we have been married for 15 years so they used a silly thing called film back then. ;)

It's OK...
...to accept help when you need it.
...to watch the newest episode of Glee several times in a couple days.
...to feel so young and so old all at once sometimes. Does that even out? ;)
...to be awfully excited to get our tax refund back in a few days.
...that Abby has listened to the same lullaby music every single night (and nap) for the past 3.5 years.(She is very attached to it. Baby Einstein: Lullaby Classics in case you were wondering.)
...that one of my MOPS friends is taking Abby to the kids museum tomorrow so I can pack more.(Funnily enough packing is proving tough with a 3.5 year old. Haha.)
...to love this version of Smooth Criminal.
to have ordered four more Konad discs with the Amazon gift cards I got from Swagbucks.
...to be super excited for a friend who found out she is pregnant (and heard her baby's heartbeat today) after trying for years and suffering a miscarriage in the process. (You know who you are!)
...to think Zooey Deschanel is simply fabulous. Love her acting and her singing.
...to look forward to seeing CMT Crossroads with Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood even if it is to giggle at the awkwardness that may come.
...to re-watch the 2011 CMA Awards and tap my toes to Blake Shelton and Kenny Loggins "Footloose" duet. Love that movie. (Both the original and re-make.)
...to love Taylor Swift's music more with each song she writes.

I love being your Mommy.

That's the reason why I read you one, then two, then three stories at bedtime.

It's the reason I pat your back and get your"behyee button" with kisses.

It's the reason that when you say "I do a craft momma?" I stop packing and dig out your art stuff.

You are a handful. A three year old through and through.

You get emotional because I won't let you eat a frozen lollipop (popsicle) for breakfast.

You throw a fit if I make you stop doing something you love to do something else.

You think every toy in the world is yours.

But...

You give me kisses at random moments.

You are tender and sweet with babies

(especially baby Isa whom you seem to have adopted as your baby sister).

You love to sing and dance around.

You memorize your favorite stories and read them later.

Movies I Adore Part 2

I've talked about movies I adore in the past and I wanted to add to my list.

The Twilight Saga: I think you all know that for one reason or another I love these movies. I love the escape from reality and the sweet love story.

27 Dresses: In addition to loving James Marsden, I think it's a cute movie with an interesting storyline.

Father of the Bride 2: Super funny in my opinion. I love watching Steve Martin's character flip out.

Dirty Dancing: I've always loved watching movies with dancing. You'd think I could dance but alas, not the case. I've loved this movie for years and years.

Grease: I have been singing to this soundtrack since I was a pre-teen. I had no idea what I was singing most of the time thankfully. I don't think a 12 year old needs to know what "the chicks will cream" means. In fact, I don't want to know either but I love the songs in this movie regardless.

Juno: I wanted to hate it. I did. But, I loved it. There are parts that bugged me to no end particularly the loose talk of abortion and what not but in general I think it was a great movie.

Easy A: I loved this play on the Scarlet Letter. Emma Stone rocked my socks off in this movie. I had never heard of her and now I think she is awesome.

Whip It: I first saw this movie at a free screening before it came out. I had never heard of roller derby and it wowed me. Like really wowed me and inspired me to find my passion.

To be honest, I don't think I've had a bad date. Wait, don't hit me with rotten tomatoes!

My hubby was my first boyfriend so I never went through the dating scene.

Sure, we have had dates where both of us were cranky all night or ones that consisted of nothing more than walking around the mall.
But, honestly, I still count them as good because we were together.
If that is cheesy then sue me. ;)

FVC: Loved This Date

Being that we've been married for 15 years we have had a lot of dates. That's right we still date. ;)
However, one that stands out in my memory is from when we were newlyweds. Which, by the way, was in the first two years while we lived in California.

My honey surprised me by driving up to Long Beach with a picnic dinner and we ate it pretty much right here.

Looking back I am not sure if it was 100% legal to do so but how romantic it was.
It was sunset and the boat is so impressive in person.
The lights were reflecting in the water and everything was just perfect.

Sigh.

10. Around the house … I see tons of mess and boxes.

11. One of my favorite things … is a cup of tea with honey. When did that happen?

12. A few plans for the rest of the week … packing, seeing friends, grocery shopping.

Heart Melting Moments With a Three Year Old

Abby and I had the following conversation this morning,

"I'm getting worried about Daddy, Mommy.

"Why sweetie?"

"Because I miss him. I think Buddy misses Daddy too. And, Kinki."

And on that note, one week down.

It feels like it's been a lot longer than a single week but I have some awesome friends here that have been trying to keep us occupied.

We've been talking to Daddy either by phone or video chat at least once a day.

One of the sweetest things so far has been Abby trying to kiss and hug the laptop.

And, each night when we pray, she always thanks God for Daddy first.

My heart melts.

...to miss my hubby so much.
...to wish our daughter would get better already. ...to want to spend as much time with my loved ones here as possible. ...that I don't care as much about my blog numbers anymore. (Not that I don't love you all!)
...to wonder what the heck we are eating for dinner each and every night.
...to procrastinate every now and then.
...to not know for sure if we are moving sooner than originally thought.
...to trust that God is in control of our lives whether it's this move or something little.

Orange juice: Pulp or No Pulp?
No pulp. Pulp is, in my opinion, very icky. Who wants to feel like their teeth are being used as a strainer?

Long or Short Nails?
I would love to have my nails long if only because that means I am not biting them but truthfully I would prefer short nails. Still not bitten mind you.

Sunrise or Sunset?
Sunrise. They are both gorgeous, at least here in AZ, but I pick Sunrise because it's the start of a new day and there is nothing more beautiful than that.

CD's or MP3 Players?
MP3 players. These days they are just easier. I do miss CD's to some extent though. The music biz was way different once upon a time.

Finding Nemo or Shrek?
I am a big fan of both and if you were to ask Abby she would pick Finding Nemo which leads me to pick Shrek. I am a bit sick of Nemo at the moment although I think it was done really well. I love Dory. But, again, Shrek wins. At least today it wins.

So, I should be packing. Instead I am procrastinating.

Yes I am quite talented at this.

My brain is sort of overloaded.

WHERE do I start?

I guess the pantry. Right now it's extremely messy and full of ~~junk~~ precious items in addition to actual food.

The kitchen is also needing to be packed. I've not really touched it except for pulling out what I wanted to give to the church yard sale. The main reason for that is I am not sure what to pack and what to leave for the last minute. So, I am leaving it all for the last minute? Not the best plan, I know.

Ok, now I am off to do the inevitable.

You know the girl who used every excuse in the world to sit out in PE or avoided talking in class at all costs? Hi, my name is Julie and that girl was, no, is me.
Today at my MOPS group (Mothers Of Pre-Schoolers) we had someone come in to teach about self-defense. I was fully prepared to participate. However, when it came time to stand up and do so I found my butt was frozen to the chair.
I couldn't make myself stand up and do it. WHY do I have to be so introverted?
Obviously I am self-conscious doing something physical. It freaks me out that others will see me "make a fool" of myself.
Ack. I wish I could get past this. It's like being trapped sometimes. I feel like I am caged in and need to escape. I laugh it off sometimes but under it all I am praying for God to take this worry from me.

Gleek Out

As many of you know I am a Gleek. Pretty sure that's a combo of Geek+Glee. Yeah, I am. I loved Choir in school and still adore singing. Now. I am definitely not saying we were doing this sort of music. Naw, we were singing Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring and Dona Nobis Pacem. Those were much cooler than Lady Gaga. Wait. She was like 8 when I graduated. Oh crud. I showed my age just then didn't I? Ignore that part.
My point, if I have one, is that I love music. All sorts practically. Although I don't always love the story lines on the show or even the songs, there is something that draws me back to it.
So, yes I am a Gleek and I have been listening to a lot of Glee music while packing. Some of their stuff is very bouncy, catchy and makes me wake up.

Roller Coaster

It has hit me. This move. Is real.
Our stuff will be in boxes for a few months. Our family will be separated for three months starting a week from today. Our family, friends, church and all the places that hold so many memories will all stay here and we will not.
It's so bittersweet and my emotions are on a roller coaster right now.
I keep my eyes on the future. On the fact that I know we are supposed to do this.
I may not fully understand but we prayed about this and we know as much as we can that we are supposed to go.
So, when my eyes tear up at the thought of leaving our comfortable and very sweetly rich life here just look away for a minute okay? Better yet, tell me you are praying for me and really do it.

...to have no idea what I am going to do for transportation after hubby leaves.

...to be unsure how to approach this move with our daughter. I don't want to needlessly worry her or just throw her into something new.
...to have large piles of stuff for the church yard sale. Oh yes, we will be donating lots.
...to have conflicting emotions about this move.
...to have no clue how to approach moving to someplace with wind and snow.
...to know that God is in control of each step and each moment.

Have you ever had so much to do that your brain feels overwhelmed? Yeah. That is where I am right now.
Purging stuff, packing, transportation questions, mailbox, storage...you get the idea.
I know without a shadow of a doubt that it's all going to work out but when I can't see how it just freaks me out. God has been trying to teach me that it doesn't matter if I see the end. He does.
So, I will just keep swimming. And yes, I have watched Finding Nemo too many times. We have a three year old remember? ;)

I Need Boxes!

I'm no stranger to a packing box. In fact, I think I've moved more than my fair share. As a child I moved numerous times. So many that I can't quite remember. When we moved to this state I was 13 and my mom promised we wouldn't move anymore. And, we didn't. (Thank you Mom!)

When we were 20 we got married. That started the roller coaster of moves. In our fifteen years of marriage so far we have moved twelve times. Soon to be thirteen. Yes, you heard that right. We are moving!

This is the biggest move so far. By that I mean we are moving a little over 900 miles away. Whew.

It's an exciting, sad, wonderful, scary adventure.

And, it starts very soon. He is leaving within two weeks. There will be a chunk of time where he is up there alone and we are down here with family. It will be hard, of course, and I ask for continued prayers.

This is not a decision we made lightly. We have been praying about it and having others pray as well.

I just wanted to let you know what was going on because we can always use more prayers and I may be online a little less.

One of my favorite blog buddies has started a new weekly post and me being me I wanted to join in the fun!Secrets. Oh yeah. That's what it's about. Or perhaps things that are normally kept between close buddies.Get ready peeps. I am sharing my soul here. Well, more than usual even. Haha.
I love listening to people softly talk & whisper. That sounds odd so I assume the rest of this will. Oh well.There is a thing called ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) Look it up. I will wait.Did you try? Yeah. There is not much out there on it. YouTube would be your best bet.What it means to me is tingly relaxation. Have you ever been, say, at the eye doctor and got tingles when they spoke softly to you? Yes? No? There's no wrong answer here. Lol. But, if you have then this is to what I am referring.There are tons of videos made by people in what they call the whisper community. Some are actual whisper videos where they are just chit chatting, reading a book or whatever. Some are softly spoken ones.You would be surprised at how many people are get relaxed from people's

We Needa Pway.

When it's time for bed I hear many words to entice me to let her to stay up just a little bit longer.
I need another book. I have to go potty. I need a drink. I need you to rock me again. I need you to pat my back. What do I do? I give in. I'm a sucker. Especially for "We needa pway."
Oh yeah. We need to pray. Yes we do!
And so we start. "Dear Jesus" I say. She begins, "Thank you for my famwy. Thank you for Daddy. And Mommy. (looks at me smiling) Thank you for Miss Jeckisa. And Memere and Pepere. And my fwends...." and then she keeps going forever in that sweet three year old voice. Then I say "In Jesus' name" and she says "Ayyyymen."
She even prayed last week in front of everyone at dinner time. All by herself. She prays with her dollies sometimes too. I have to tell you that it warms my heart to hear her pray. It motivates me to be even more diligent and faithful. It reminds that she is really listening to every single word we say. It makes me think if I am so happy hearing her talking to God how much more so He is overjoyed when we talk to Him.

Christmas Everyday

Apparently, to our daughter, everyday is Christmas. Each day she has been bringing me a present. There have been a variety. Sometimes, it's little toys or cards. Yesterday it was this.

She uses the same box everyday. It's one I save from Christmas to Christmas because I adore it.

"Here's a present for you Momma!" She says in a very excited way. Her eyes dance as she waits for me to see the treasure within. "I've always wanted alphabet and number magnets Abigail! How did you know?" I hold them as if they were pieces of gold knowing that in 10 years this memory (combined with tons of others) will carry me through the teen years.

My heart overflows with love for this sweet child.

How can it be Friday again? This week has flown by despite my cold and the hubs being back at work.

It's been a great start to the New Year minus said cold. It seems like at least once a month for the last few months I have been sick. Living in Arizona you would think I wouldn't be sick so darn much. Oh well, I have so much to be thankful for I can stand being sick with a cold.

There is so much on my mind lately. Unfortunately, I can't share it all with you. I wanna. You know I wanna but it's not quite the right time. Let's just say there are possible big changes on the horizon.

One of my blogging buddies is doing the NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) challenge. The idea is to post new content every day. To not use scheduling or back dating. Ouch. Yes, I have been guilty of doing both and while it is not that big a deal I am trying to focus more on posting something each day. It may be a paragraph, or more, it could be a photo even but you get the idea. Be on the look out for more posts. Coming soon to a screen near you. ;)

New Year's Resolutions: Yay or Nay?I say nay. I'm not a big fan of resolutions mainly because they end as quickly as they begin.

I've talked about this before and I'm sure I will again.

Snail mail or E-mail?
Snail mail for sure. I love sending cards & letters to friends and family just as much as I enjoy getting them. Possibly more so.

Rootbeer or Cream soda?
Rootbeer. But, it has to be caffeine free. There are a few out there. Mug is one of them.

American Idol Winners: Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood?
I like them both honestly but I pick Kelly Clarkson because I typically prefer pop music in my everyday life.

Chicken Marsala or Vegetable Lasagna?Chicken Marsala for the win. I love that stuff. I don't get to eat mushrooms very often though because no one I know likes them. At all. Boo.

Our company is on their way home today and while I am quite sad that they are gone I will admit something to you...Shh. I am glad to be sleeping in our own bed again. Air mattresses, particularly this one, are not bad at all but there is nothing quite like your very own bed. (sigh)
Alas I cannot stay in it all day but our daughter did let me sleep until 8 am. That was very nice of her. Her normal time is usually about 7 am. So, I got to enjoy our comfy cozy bed for a little bit longer.
Woohoo!

Buffalo Chicken Dip

2 cups shredded chicken
8 oz shredded cheddar
8 oz cream cheese
1 cup ranch dressing
1/2 cup Louisiana hot sauce

Mix it all together in a crock pot an cook an hour.
Serve with chips, celery, etc.

Well, today marks a very important day. Back to work day for my hubs. Boo. I wish he could make money while staying at home having fun with us. I'm sure lots of people have wished that so why haven't we figured this one out? Hehe. Seriously people get on it.
He had been off work since December 21 so we got used to the flow of Daddy being here.
Abby and I are counting down to when he comes home from work.

Do you know how much restraint I showed in typing that regular instead of TiK ToK? A Ke$ha reference. Sorry. I am shamed.*giggle*
We went with my cousin's wife and their two boys to the library for a fun weekly event.
They read to the kids, do a craft, let them play, and then give them a snack, book, and toy.
It is pretty much the awesomest thing ever. I know that's not a word, by the way, work with me here.
This library is amazing. It has a dragon and castle inside the kids area. And, it has play areas like a kitchen, a puppet theater area and more. Seriously fun.

If I Made Resolutions...

I don't make New Year's resolutions because I think they are highly overrated. I never keep them, as most people don't, and try to change things throughout the year if they need to be changed.
But, if I made resolutions...

I would resolve to get off my butt and exercise every day.
I would resolve to cut sugar out of my diet.
I would resolve to treat people better than they treat me.
I would resolve to put my needs last.
I would resolve to blog about small moments more.
I would resolve to be a sillier mommy.
I would resolve to be a more passionate wife.
and most of all,
I would resolve to be open to whatever plans God has in store for our family.

These are things I feel confident I can work on through the year past January 31st. You know, that strange date when people tend to lose their motivation for some reason?

No-Fuss Potato Soup

from the Fix It and Forget it Cookbook
Cook Time: 7 to 8 hours

6 cups cubed peeled potatoes
5 cups water
2 cups chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup thinly sliced carrots
1/4 cup butter or margarine
4 teaspoons chicken bouillon granules
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Snipped chives, optional

In a large slower cooker (with a crock pot liner of course!), combine the first nine ingredients. Cover and cook on high for 7 to 8 hours or until vegetables are tender. Add milk and parsley; mix well. Cover and cook 30 to 60 minutes longer or until heated through. Garnish with chives if desired.

Yield 8 to 10 servings (about 3 quarts)

Boob Tube Babble

This week has been a complete Boob Tube bust. Why? We have family in town so I haven't watched much of anything on the telly unless you count Clifford the Big Red Dog or Little Einsteins.
Oh wait! I DID watch Man Vs. Food.That man is insane. HOW has he not had some sort of health issue yet?I hope he doesn't but if you have seen this show you know he finds these food challenges all over the place and tries to beat them.
A few of the insane challenges?72 oz steak.422 oysters.5 lb Reuben sandwich.10 lb Super stuffed pizza.12 lb hamburger.17 hot dogs in one hour.
The ones I watched were the last two I believe and I felt like hurling after watching them.How does he do it? I don't know.
I am not going to be entering any in the near future but it sure is interesting to watch.

...to still want to watch Christmas movies a few days after the fact.

...that we have been "cold" at about 55-60 degrees.
...to both love AND hate the fact that Tom has disc golf for a new hobby.
...that I forgot to put out the trash last week and we are now anxiously waiting for Friday's trash pick up.
...to be quite sad that Trader Joe's doesn't have De-caffeinated Candy Cane Green Tea year round.

Infertility Bites

How long did I wait to hear the words "Mommy" and know they were meant for me?
A very long time. (Well, it was 11 years to get the positive test.)
I waited so long that I believed it would never come.
It's painful, like a shot through the heart, when you want a child so badly.
To be quite honest it felt like everyone in the world was pregnant except for me.
Obviously, I knew the facts. I knew that it was not true but feelings can be a potent thing. They can seep out and affect everything else in your life.
For me, that heartache caused jealousy, bitterness, depression, and fear.
Infertility tested my faith in a way I never believed possible. I said I believed in God, that He was in control of my life. But, when it came down to it, I wanted my life my way. I wanted...me, my. I think you get the picture. I was so wrapped up in myself and my desires that I never gave them over to God. Oh sure, I said I did but truthfully I never let go of them. It's easy to say this now. At the time I would have slapped you in the face if you had told me this. If you are struggling with infertility, and the emotions that go with it, I am not saying you are selfish. I'm not. I'm simply telling you what I went through. I know now that I was wrapped up in a cocoon.
Each Christmas was a painful reminder that we did not have that family that I so longed for.
I remember when it all hit home for me. We had been seeing a reproductive endocrinologist for several months and, although we had not done any medicine therapy, we had been gearing up to do so that month.
My doctor told me that the initial trial run only had about a 7% chance of working or some insane number like that. It was like I heard a voice that said, "God can do anything." I know you might be thinking, Oh no she went off the deep end. She was hearing voices. But, I swear I did. And it's true.
God can do anything. He could give me the child I so longed for. He could also have made me wait longer. He might even have, in His great wisdom, had bigger plans for me than to have a child at all.
I cannot imagine my life without Abby and I hope to never have to face a life without her.
But you know, I know now that God really is in control of my life.
This Christmas I am reminded of the big blessings He has given us.

"It's Ok" Thursday

...to look forward to Abby's nap more than she does.
...to desperately (okay, maybe not desperately) want a spiked egg nog.
...to be looking forward to seeing my daughter's face while opening the presents but worry about where we will put them afterward.
...to be in Spring Cleaning mode way in advance.
...to be finishing up Christmas shopping a couple days before the big day.

We're celebrating 15 years of wedded bliss today.

Now, the only thing I would change about the wedding would be photography.

I didn't get really good pictures. I would definitely change that.

We met at the school bus stop when we were about 14.

What was your first impression of him?:

I thought he was cute and a bit, um, rowdy.

Who asked who out?:

Hm. It was so complicated. I told him how I felt and we both decided we were dating.

How long did you date?:

Just a few months under two years passed before we got married.

Who kissed who first?

I kissed him. It was 8 months from when we decided to date. Yeah, he was in the military and not nearby.

Who said "I love you" first?:

I'm not sure. It might have been me.

Who proposed?:

He did. We were in my room listening to music when he pulled out the engagement ring and asked me to marry him.

How long have you been married?:

15 years on 12/21/11.

How many kids do you have together?:

We have one, a daughter, named Abigail. She is three.

Who has changed more diapers?:

Unfortunately, it's probably me since I have been at home with her.

How old is your husband?:

He is 35 just like me. We are a week apart in age.

Who eats more?:

It has gone back and forth but probably him.

Who is taller?:

He is just about 6 ft and I am 5'4". So, him definitely.

Who sings better?:

Me. That's one of the things that attracted him to me. :)

Who is smarter?:

I'd say we are both equally smart.

Who does the laundry?:

I typically do the laundry.

Who does the dishes?:

Sometimes he does but usually I do.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?:

If you are looking down at the bed I am sleeping on the right.

Who pays the bills?:

Both of us.

Who mows the lawn?:

He does, thankfully. I don't trust myself with the mower.

Who cooks dinner?:

I do. I really love cooking.

Who is more stubborn?:

This is another time I'd say we both are equally stubborn. I am working on this in myself.

Who is more sensitive?:

I can be pretty sensitive so I guess me.

Who has more friends?:

I'd say it's even.

Who has more siblings?:

He does since I am an only child.

Salsa Chicken

Ingredients:

3/4 pound cubed skinless, boneless chicken
breast meat
1/2 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and
drained 1 (8.75 ounce) can sweet corn, drained
1/4 cup salsa
water as needed
1 cup shredded Mexican-style cheese
1 1/2 cups crushed plain tortilla chips
oil for frying

Directions:
In a large skillet over medium high heat, saute chicken in oil until cooked through and no longer pink inside. Add taco seasoning, beans, corn, salsa and a little water to prevent drying out. Cover skillet and simmer over medium low heat for 10 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Transfer chicken mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with 1/2 cup of the cheese and crushed tortilla chips.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Add remaining 1/2 cup cheese and bake until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Abby + Santa = Love/Hate

Abby's relationship with Santa started off relatively okay.

(2008 - 4 months old)

But by the next year she forgot that she had ~~loved him~~ tolerated him.

(2009 - 1 year 4 months)

Notice the pout she had in 2009? Well, 2010 is 10 times worse. And here we are...

(2010 - 2 years 4 months)

and that brings us to this year...she said she wanted to see Santa and tell him what she wants for Christmas but we got this instead. Haha.

(2011 - 3 years 4 months)

and she wanted to show Santa her drawing but of course not get too close.

It shocked me because she is so excited this year. She keeps saying that Santa Claus is coming to her house. Santa has sent her a video message as well as a phone call this year and she was jumping up & down.
Well, maybe next year will be the one where she finally sits happily on his lap. But, I have to say I am still enjoying the photos anyway. ;)

Three Years Ago...

My hubby's is having a dinner at a Steakhouse and we are attending. It is this next Saturday and kids are invited too so it should be interesting.

Now, here are the questions:

How many nail polishes do you have? I finally counted them up and I have 39. Part of me thought I had more and part of me is shocked at the fact that I have over 30.

What is your favorite brand of nail polish? I am an equal opportunity nail polish lover. Though I admit I love OPI I only have 3-4 of their polishes.

Do you like crackle polish, or do you hate it? I was on the fence for a bit but now that I've tried it for myself I really like it. The only one I own is red crackle but my friend Jess has silver (as well as others) and I love that one.

What is your first nail polish brand? First ever? I guess it was Wet n Wild. I loved that stuff as a teen.

If you're going to have a nail polish line, what are you gonna name it? Not planning on having a nail polish line but if I did I would call it Rainbow Sprinkles.

What nail polish color does not compliment you? Orangey Reds, yellows and some shades of green.

And what color does compliment you? Blue red colors.

Name two of your best nail art friends? I only have one friend that is into nail polish like I am. Her name is Jessica and she's a nail polish addict like me. ;)

What was the best nail polish gift you have ever received? The other day Jess surprised me with an OPI polish color that I have been drooling over. It's called "Got the Blues for Red".

A Letter To Myself At Twelve

Dear Julie,

I am writing to you from the future. 23 years in the future to be exact. You are twelve and life is hard. I know that full well. Your step-dad is mistreating you in so many ways. You don't have any set roots. You feel fatherless in ways. I have good news for you...your life is heading exactly the way it should. Everything happens for a reason, you see.
Now, you would think at my age I'd have it all together. But, you know what, that's a myth. Let me let you in on some wisdom I have gleamed.

1) No one is perfect. Only God is. It's okay to make mistakes. It means you are human. Growing. Learning. Trust me.
2) Relax. You don't have to stress out all the time and be in control. I know you feel like you need to be in control of something since everything else seems out of control but you don't. It's okay.
3) Life is never as bad as you think it is. We are always in a state of flux and there is a bright spot just around each corner.
4) There is only so long you can blame who you are on what has happened in your life. Be like a Marine "Improvise. Adapt. Overcome."
5) Nothing can take the place of God, your family or your friends. Some people spend most of their time, money, and energy before they figure that out.
6) If you don't have something you love to do - find it. Use your God given gifts.
7) Don't be afraid to step out onto a ledge, figuratively speaking of course. Chances are you won't fall - and if you do God can pick you up again.
8) Work hard when you are supposed to. Relax when you are supposed to. Balance in life is key.
9) Try not to frustrate people for the heck of it but don't break your back trying to please everyone because it never works and you'll be miserable.
10) Follow God's leading in your life. Even when it doesn't make sense He never makes an error in judgement though people may not agree.

You are going to have so many blessings in life. Keep in mind that everything worth it is worth waiting for. That tidbit will come in handy. You will be a Mom someday to a beautiful little girl and you will have an awesome husband. Your friends and family kick butt.
Keep your chin up girl. You have so much promise.

It depends on how well it's done. I am not a big fan of big gaudy displays typically but sometimes they are cute.

12. Are you counting the days to Christmas with excited anticipation or dread?
Excited anticipation mostly. Some dread but that's just because I am not quite prepared. lol

13. When was the last time you had your photo taken with Santa? Did you sit on his lap?
I don't really remember sitting on Santa's lap ever or having a photo done with him. Boo.

We don't typically do gifts for each other. Well, usually one or so but it's always picked without a clue.

1. What is your favorite holiday show/animated show?
I have so many favorites. My favorite cartoon is probably How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It has a great message and so many memories attached to it. I have many more favorite Christmas movies though like The Holiday and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

2. What holiday character do you think you’re most like?
Santa, because I love to give.

3. What holiday character does your spouse think you’re most like?

Hm...Mrs. Claus? Hehe. :)

4. Favorite Christmas/holiday song?
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year and then I also love Christmas Don't Be Late by the Chipmunks.

5. Most hated Christmas/holiday song?
I don't really hate any of them but there are some that annoy me a bit. One that annoys me is Carol of the Bells. It was fun to sing in Choir but now when I hear it I mainly get dizzy. It's just so busy sounding.

Duggar Debate

I was going to stay out of this. You know the whole Duggar debate. You didn't know there was a debate?

Apparently so.

I don't care if someone has 1 child or 20. No seriously. I mean, yeah, I may look at them twice if they have a lot of children, however, it would be out of curiosity and awe. I will admit my heart used to break a little bit whenever I saw someone with more than their "fair share" of kids. Yeah, I'm sure I will get chewed out for that but that is truly how I looked at it at one point. I mean, dear goodness, I couldn't even have one and they get to have 20? Come on. When is it my turn? I cried.

Yes. I felt it. Bitterness. Envy.
I am human. I can't stop emotions if I try. I can pray that they do not control me though.

Hearing that Michelle Duggar just found out her baby died in utero (in her second trimester) I was struck with sorrow for her.

I know that people lose babies everyday. People with no other children and people with lots of children. My point is this... Every child lost deserves respect. Deserves to be mourned. Every mom that has lost a child deserves sympathy. Not "I told you so" and "See what you get?"

Ok, according to some, maybe she should have stopped after Josie. Maybe this is a sign that her body cannot handle pregnancy. Maybe this is God telling them to stop procreating. And maybe? This is none of our business. Yeah, they have a tv show and they are "celebrities" now but it really ticks me off that people can't just stop talking crap. For just one minute. And, realize they are people too.

No, they aren't your next door neighbors (or maybe they are) but they deserve compassion just like the rest of us.

At least in my book.

Sitting on the couch with a bowl of popcorn while watching Dick Clark's New Years Rocking Eve.Or, more likely, cuddling with the hubby completely wide asleep. ;)We are not partiers though it would be nice to change things up alas we have no friends that are NYE party throwers either. Oh well.
When I was young I wanted to stay up until the wee hours of the morning but my adult self has realized that I do best with sleep.

Breath of Heaven

I am singing a song that I thought I would never sing again.
At our last church I sang it over 3 times. Everyone commented on how it fit my voice etc.
Then, I was asked to sing it this Sunday.
Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant.
It's a haunting sweet song from the perspective of Mary while she was pregnant with Baby Jesus.

I cannot imagine being in Mary's shoes. I tend to shy away from responsibility especially when I know it's something big from God. Jesus was beyond a big responsibility and yet, how do you tell God no?
"No thanks God. I am quite comfortable in my life. I don't want to rock the boat." No.
You simply say "help me be strong. Help me be. Help me."
I am praying that I don't bawl when I sing this song. Somehow God knew I needed to sing this song again. I really need it's message right now. Always.

Thursday December 8th: 2012 goals/resolutions
I tend to not make these as I never keep them. However, maybe this next year will be different. Anyone can make the usual lose weight resolution (which is ironically sort of on my list lol) but I will personalize them a bit.
1. Do (at least) one thing a day that is creative with and without Abby.
2. Plan multiple playdates in a week. This child, and her momma, need to get out more.
3. Be even more consistent in prayer than this last year. (I have improved.)
4. Make good decisions about eating and exercising so I can have a better quality of life.
5. Do something silly every day.
6. Have girls night outs in addition to date nights.
7. Learn to do something Tom enjoys like play disc golf or watch sports.
8. Read the Bible every day and try to apply it to my life. (Already doing this one but my goal is to keep it up.)

Tuesday December 6th: How do you celebrate the holidays?
We celebrate by getting together with family and friends. Going to church. Decorating the tree. Looking at lights in surrounding neighborhoods. Having campfires out back while drinking cocoa. Opening presents. Baking cookies. Remembering the reason for the season. (Which also ties into why we go to church.) We watch Christmas movies and listen to Christmas music.Christmas is one of my favorite times of year.

Nail Polish Swap Reveal

Today is the day of the big reveal!

So, I was paired up with Maggie and had fun chit chatting with her to discover her likes/dislikes.

We both are pretty open to colors and such so I was excited to see what she chose!

Although I can't wear them together (because the green is so dark it's almost black and the shatter doesn't show up) they are so pretty. I am especially loving the red shatter over white nail polish right now. It's giving a candy cane like effect. Adorable!

Holiday Blog Challenge [Day 6]

Monday December 5th: Christmas dessert/treat recipe

Chocolate Peppermint Cookies
adapted from Martha Stewart

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup fine sugar
1 large whole egg, plus 1 large yolk
3/4 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
8 large candy canes, crushed*
2 pounds white chocolate or confectioners’ coating, coarsely chopped

In a medium bowl, whisk dry ingredients.

In another bowl, beat butter and sugar on medium until fluffy, about 4 minutes. On medium-low, add egg, then yolk, until blended. Beat in peppermint extract. Reduce speed to low and slowly add flour mixture, beating until just mixed.

Divide dough into 2 and place dough on sheets of plastic wrap. Shape dough into disks, wrap, and refrigerate 1 hour (up to 2 days).

Lightly flour a piece of parchment and one disk of dough. Roll out to 1/8 inch thickness. Using a 2 inch circle, cut into rounds and place on parchment lined baking sheet. Reroll dough scraps and cut remaining rounds. Refrigerate 15 minutes; repeat with other disk.

Preheat oven to 325*F. Bake 6 minutes, then rotate sheet 180 degrees and bake for another 6 minutes. Transfer parchment to cooling rack; cool completely.

Place candy in a plastic bag and bang away with a kitchen mallet until the candy is crushed. Using a sieve, sift to separate powder from larger pieces and divide into two small dishes.

Melt white chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water. Dunk cookies in chocolate, turning with two forks, until coated. Use one fork to brush excess from cookie bottom, then transfer to parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle half the cookies with the powdered candy and half with the candy chunks.

Refrigerate baking sheets until set (3 hours). Serve immediately, or freeze.

Reading "The Bible"

Abby has been attending Gospel Train at our church. It is like Sunday School for younger kids with lots of different activities. One of those activities is reading a story from the Bible.This is the second time I've caught her reading a story about Jesus to her toys. This time they were lined up by her leg there. She is using our old hymnal as a Bible because it looks very similar to the Bibles at church. :)

It melts this Momma's heart for sure.

Boob Tube Babble [Wk 2]

I have actually watched quite a bit of tv this week. Shocking.
Glee was back on and I wasn't too thrilled with their song choices but enjoyed it nonetheless.-Spoiler alert!-I am quite shocked that Rachel cheated. She seems like such a goody goody and that she would never jeopardize her singing like that. My favorite song had to be Perfect, originally sung by Pink, because I just love that one in general but it was well done by Kurt and Blaine. Note: I am looking forward to the return of Sam on the next episode. Oh yeah. Trouty lips is back!
I also watched Modern Family this week. Punkin Chunkin was a cute episode.I loved seeing Phil's inventions. They cracked me up. There are always lines in this show that make me laugh out loud. It made me giggle watching the two girls try to hide the car dent too. So stinkin funny.
Those are the two I remember other than Mickey Mouse and Clifford the Big Red Dog. Which were both, I might add, riveting. ;)

Thinking Of What He Has Done

I am doing a daily bible application on my phone. It is so handy. Here is what I read today.

Samuel reminded the people to take time to consider what great things God had done for them. Taking time for reflection allows us to focus our attention upon God’s goodness and strengthens our faith. Sometimes we are so progress and future oriented that we fail to take time to recall all that God has already done. Remember what God has done for you so that you may continue your life accompanied with gratitude.

“But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.” 1 Samuel 12:24

Each day I find myself praying for many of the same things and very often forgetting to say thank you for those things which he has already answered. Quite often God has answered my prayer with a great deal more than what I asked for.
Today I am thinking about the big and little things He has done for me.

For years I longed for more than friendship with the man who is now my husband. Years. I know the Lord has brought him to my life. Do I take the time every day to appreciate this?

I spent nearly 18 years of my life not knowing much about God. Oh, I knew that there was a God but I didn’t really know anything about him. I knew God is Love and that is a good place to start but I didn’t get it. God touched my heart through a great many people and gave me salvation.

For years we prayed for a child. After 11 years we conceived Abigail. She is a miracle and a gift.

I’ve always wanted a home to make our own. For some reason I thought it had to be one we owned. Not true. We have a house to give us shelter, to make memories in. This house is not riddled with bugs or stuff that makes us sick.

A car. There was a point in our marriage where we didn’t have a car for a bit. I had forgotten. It’s so easy to forget. God gave us a car and no matter how I long to have a second one for things to be easier, I will be content with the blessing of the one we do have.

I constantly find myself wanting and wanting. And less often, thanking God for what I have.
This isn’t working.
Do you know how unhappy it makes a person to do that?

You feel shorted, gypped. Why does everyone have more than you? Why isn’t it your turn?
In truth, you have so much more than so many others.

Instead of worrying and pleading for this time in my life to pass (anxiety) I will thank God for it. Why? Because He has given it to me for a reason. To draw closer to Him. To share my struggles with others. To change my life’s course.

Not an easy thing to live out, for sure, but I have faith in the one who will help me daily.
